Brief History

In each state a unit was established to train 'B' Class personnel to the point that they could then undertake support roles. In Western Australia the unit was formed at Northam and initially titled 5th Australian 'B' Class Training Unit. During a re-organisation of units in October 1942 it was retitled 16th Australian training Company ('B' Class). Its purpose was t train up to 250 men for a month before they wewre allocated to a unit, but also to provide remedial training. In march 1943 the unit expanded and was then call3rd Service Training Depot and in May they were renamed 3rd Special Service Training Centre. Given the decreased level of troops in Western Australia, the unit was then disbanded in January 1944.
