Brief History

12th Field Ambulance as mobilised at Brighton in Tasmania during December 1941, with a detachment at Milford. In March 1942 they moved to Kingston having left a company at Brighton. In April 1943 they were released to move north to Townsville to join the 4th Australian Infantry Division. They established themselves at Smyths Siding with detachments at Brookhill and Bohle River.

Their next move was to the Northern Territory with 'B' Company moving by sea during May, and the rest of the unit by road and rail in June 1943. They were established in the southern brigade camp until October when they moved to the central camp, remaining there servicing units that rotated through the camp until July 1945 when they moved to Wallgrove in new South Wales where they were disbanded.
