Brief History
Raised in the Newcastle area, it was mobilised at Greta, NSW in December 1941. In August 1942 they were allocated to 1st Australian Armoured Division which was concentrated at Narrabri for large scale manoeuvres before being moved to WA in October. In November the 3rd CCS moved to Gunnedah, but by January 1943 it was at Morowa with a detachment at Mingenew in WA. In March they were concentrated at Mingenew and on 3 Apr 1943 the unit was renamed 103rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station. With reducing troop numbers in WA in July 1943 it was responsible for all troops in the Geraldton and Moora area, and then in August they swapped with the 108th CCS and moved to Blackboy Hill to service units in the Swan valley camps. In November they were in Moora servicing all units outside the metro area, but with further troop reductions the 103rd CCS was absorbed into the 108th CCS in December 1943.
