Brief History
Area Signals, Eastern Command' was mobilised at Paddington (NSW) in December 1941 with A Section manning wireless communications, B Section line construction, D Section operational and M Section maintenance. In the Army reorganisation in April 1942 they briefly became Area Signals, NSW Lines of Communication before they moved to Hunters Hill in May where they expanded to form HQ NSW Lines of Communication Area Signals. In June 1943, following expansion and changes they became HQ 12th Lines of Communication Signals. From the end of 1943 the HQ Second Australian Army that they were supporting had no further operational role and unit amalgamations an downsizing began, and by May 1945 a much smaller unit was located at Middle Head where they continued to operate until the end of the war.
