Brief History

The 7th Australian Field Ambulance was in camp at Chermside in December 1941, while also servicing other camp hospitals in the Brisbane area. In April 1942 they moved to Nambour, with an Advanced Dressing Station (ADS) at Yandina. In May they moved with the 29th Infantry Brigade Group to Townsville, establishing themselves at Toonpan, with an ADS at Roseneath, and one at Black River in September 1942.

When the 29th Infantry Brigade moved to Milne Bay, New Guinea in January 1943 they went also, with a detachment located at Porlock Harbour in February. In July 1943 they moved to Cape Endaiadere in early August, moving later that month to Nassau Bay, and then to Tambu Bay in September to service the units on the southern flank of the approach to Salamaua. Following Lae's capture they moved there in October 1943 before returning to Australia for leave in May 1944.

After leave and retraining at Strathpine in November 1944 they moved to Bougainville, establishing a detachment at Modionu. In February 1945 they re-located to Toko, and then to Motupena in May before returning to Toku in June. When hostilities ceased in August 1945 they had detachments in the Mivo River area with their main Dressing Station at Toko.
