Brief History
'5th Detail Issue Depot was raised in Townsville in September 1942, and in October they moved to Cooktown with a detachment at Mareeba briefly before the majority of the unit moved back to Mareeba, leaving a detachment at Cooktown. They moved again in March 1943, this time to Wondecla on the Atherton tableland, leaving their detachment at Mareeba until it rejoined the main unit when it was re-organised s 37th Supply Depot Platoon.
In September 1943 they joined with 38, 39, and 40 Supply Depot Platoons to form HQ 3rd Supply Depot Company at Cabarlah with the platoons changing their designations to 11th, 12th and 13th Supply Depot Platoons. he platoons orked with Canungra training units and artillery units at Helidon before the entire Company moved to Wongabel in May 1944.
In early 1945 the unit was allocated the role of supporting the 7th Division's attack on Balikpapan and it moved to the staging area at Morotai in June. While 12th Supply Depot Platoon remained at Morotai, the rest landed at Balikpapan in July, working there until the end of the war.
