Brief History
In October 1942 12th Bomb Disposal Section was raised before moving to Port Kembla in New South Wales during October 1942. In January 1943 it moved to Port Moresby, and following a re-organisation of bomb disposal units in October 1943 it became 1st Australian Bomb Disposal Platoon. They had a detachment at Buna and later Lae, but it had returned to Port Moresby by January 1944 when they returned to Australia for a break. After leave they re-assembled at Kapooka before moving to Wongabel in Queensland in September. November found them at Deadmans Gully where they joined 2nd Beach Group preparing for landing son Borneo. In march 1945 they moved to the staging area on Morotai before participating in the landing by 26th Infantry Brigade at Tarakan in May, followed by the 7th Infantry Division landing at Balikpapan in July where they remained for the rest of the war.
