Brief History

Thhought to have been formed at Bathurst (NSW) in January 1942 to include all NSW based Infantry training units. Re-organised in April 1942, it was renamed 2nd Infantry Training Brigade comprising the 14th, 28th 31st and 32nd Infantry Training Battalions. In August the 1st Pioneer Training Battalion joined the unit from Balcombe in Victoria, and in October the 5th and 8th Infantry Training battalions also joined them. In late 1942 the 30th Infantry Training Battalion joined fromPort Moresby and in April 1943 the 23rd Infantry Training Battalion joined from Watsonia in Victoria.

With recruit traiing centralised at Cowra from October 1943, and Infantry Training Battalions no longer training men for their matching Infantry Brigades, the number of training battalions decreased, and those that were left (Brigade Training HQ,, 16th, 21st, 23rd, 28th and 32nd Battalions) moved to Greta (NSW) foir the rest of the war.
