Brief History

First raised as the No 7 Infantry Training Centre at Tidal River on the Wilson's Promontory on 16 Feb 1941 to train men for the Independant Companies. In November 1942 the unit moved to more appropiate surroundings at Cunungra in Queensland. On arrival in Queensland the unit was renamed 1st Commando Training Company, but when HQ Administrative duties were taken over by another unit in September 1943 it changed again, to 1st Commando Training Squadron. In febraury 1944 a final name change occurred to 1st Australian Cavalry Commando Training Squadron, and they continued to provide replacements to the Commando Squadrons until the end of the war.
