Built for the Oceanic Steamship Company and used on the California (San Francisco) to Sydney, Australia route, via Honolulu, Fiji and American Samoa. On 7 Jul 1907 he Oakland Tribune reported that the Sanoma had collided with a three masted schooner named Advent off Cape Mendocino and had the schooner in tow, heading for the nearest port of Eureka as the schooner had lost her bowsprit,foremast and mainmast. In 1926 Oceanic was sold to the Matson Navigation Company (Matson Line).
