Tidworth Military Hospital

Brief History

Tidworth Military Hospital was built in 1907. It had between 200 to 300 beds. It was conveniently located by the army training grounds of Salisbury Plains in South East Wiltshire, where up to 40,000 Australian troops were based at any time during WW1. While the Australian Administration HQ was in London, a large HQ element was at Tidworth overseeing the Training Depots. During 1915 a hutted camp was built on nearby Perham Down in 1915 and used for some time by Australian troops.

Tidworth Military Hospital closed on the 31 March 1977. To date no records have been found to indicate if the hospital was staffed by British, Ausatralian or a combination, personnel.
