General Information
The 130th Australian General Hospital arrived in Japan on 10 March 1946 and established itself on the island Eta Jima In the Hiroshima Prefecture in premises previously held by the Japanese Navy. Some of the personnel were fresh from Australia, but some were relocated from hospitals on Morotai.
In 1949 the hospital was subsumed by the British Commonwealth General Hospital, although the Australians continued to have their Matron and administration. Before the Korean war started the hospital was a small 200 bed facility, performing an average of four operations a month. In December 1950 it was expanded by a further 200 beds
