Brief History

This unit was raised at Bogan Gate (NSW) during June 1942, working in conjunction with the Base Ammunition Depot at Albury to hold reserve stocks of all ammunition which was then issued as needed to advanced ammunition depots around Australia and overseas. It was staffed by personnel from 2/1st Ammunition Company and 2nd Ordnance Ammunition Company which were both based in Albury. During the reorganisatin of ammunition depots in September 1943, 2nd Australian Ammunition Company was disbanded and the men posted directly to 2nd Australian Base Ammunition Depot which continued to be a major base depot for ammunition until after the end of hostilities.
