Brief History

A number of AWAS personnel were amongst those who manned the Oliver Battery and the Bickley Battery on Rottnest island, and they were accommodated in buildings opened up at Kingston Barracks in April 1943, along with AWAS members from other units on the island. All up some 100 women were accommodated at the peak, but with reduced threat, personnel were posted elsewhere and the unit closed in March 1944.
