Brief History

When the 2/153rd General Transport Company returned to Australian from New guinea in July 1944 it was re-organised to form three potentially independent transport platoons, each with a workshop section as well as a workshop platoon to undertake more complex repairs. the 2/7th Transport Platoon, 2/8th Transport Platoon, 2/9th Transport Platoon and 2/153 Workshop Platoon were formed at Strathpine in Queensland. Equipped with jeeps and trailers they were to work with the brigades of the 7th Infantry Division. In August they moved to Kairi in north Queensland to await a role north of New Guinea. In May the platoons left with their brigades for the staging area on Morotai before landing at Balikpapan in July where they worked for the rest of the war.
