Pre War
Had served for 6 months with the Commonwealth Horse in South Africa during the Boer War.
War Service
Entered Blackboy Hill camp on 16 Dec 1914, and sent to Victoria for training. On 15 Feb 1915 he was allocated to the 4th reinforcement draft for the 14th Battalion travelling with them to Egypt before transferring on 30 Apr 1915 to the 13th Australian Army Service Corps Field Bakery with a new Regimental Number of 5300. With them he landed on to Gallipoli on 21 May 1915.
On 14 Jun 1915 he was appointed Lance Corporal, and on 7 Jul 1915 he was admitted to the 25th casualty Clearing Station on Imbros with pneumonia. On 18 Jul 1915 he was transferred to the 1 Dec 1915 he was promoted Corporal.
On 9 Oct 1918 he was a member of the 1st Australian Field bakery, and on 10 Oct 1918 he was promoted Temporary Sergeant.
