− | the '''1st Australian Detention Barracks''' was formed in March 1940 at Jerusalem by a detachment from the ''Australian Overseas Base Provost Company''. The unit was expanded in October/November 1941, and split to also form the ''2nd Australian Detention Barracks'' at Hill 69 in Palestine, and ''3rd Australian Detention Barracks'' at Nuseirat, south of Gaza. The unit returned to Australia in April 1942, and were renamed '''2/1st Australian Detention Barracks'''.
