Brief History
In April 1942 the transport units in central Australia were reorganised at Alice Springs to form the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Australian General Transport Companies. They continued the work of operating the convoy system between ALice Springs and Larrimah. In November the 2nd Australian General Transport Company was renamed 147th Australian General Transport Company, before being relieved in December when they moved to Plympton in South Australia from where they carried out general transport work in Adelaide and its environs until the end of the war.
