Brief History
The 71st AWAS Barrack, also known as AWAS Barrack, HQ First Australian Army was raised when in April 1945 it was decided to allow AWAS personnel to serve in Papua/New Guinea. It was raised at Butibum road, Lae to accommodate them when they arrived in May to work at HQ First Aust Army, remaining active until the end of the war.
