Brief History

In the March 1944 re-organisation of the army baking units, 1 Platoon of 15th Field Bakery became 46th Australian Field baking Platoon at Blacks Camp Creek on Cape York, Queensland. It had detachments on Horn Island and at Red Island Point. In July they moved to Thursday Island. In September 1944, with the reduction in the garrison on Thursday Island, they were transferred to Strathpine where they joined the group of units preparing for future operations north of New Guinea.


In March 1945 the platoon moved to the staging area on Morotai, befopre landing at Balikpapan in July where they baked until the end of the war.
