Brief History

Each state raised a unit in September 1942 to train 'B' Class personnel in order that they could perform support roles. In Western Australia the unit was raised at Northam and titles 5 (B) Class Training Unit. In October, its name changed following a re-organisation to 16th Training Company ("B" Class). They were equipped to train 250 men for a month begore they were allocated to a unit, and they were also able to provide remedial training. In March 1943 the unit was expanded to become the 3rd Australian Services Training Depot, and in May 1943 their title changed to 3rd Australian Specialist Services Training Centre.

With the withdrawal of troops from Western Australia during 1943, the unit was disbanded in January 1944, although John's records caste some doubt on these dates.
