History
For King and Empire. Jarrahdale Roll of Honor Unveiled! Under the auspices of the Jarrahdale Soldiers' Welcome Committee, one of the most successful and brilliant of entertainments took place in the Jarrahdale Hall, when the occasion was taken to unveil the beautiful Honor Roll board which has been erected to the memory of the brave lads who have gone out to do "their bit" for King and country, as the very fine monument suggested by the wording above. [1]
The board was prepared and presented to the committee by Millars' Timber and Trading Company, and Messrs McDonald and Christian carried out the task of placing the board in position, while Mr Cunningham put in his spare time painting the 146 names which appear there, and the committee are deeply grateful to the donors of the board, as well as to the three gentlemen named for their labour of love on the board. [2]
Setting
The Honor Roll is on a massive polished jarrah board, about 8ft by 5ft 6in, which is in turn fixed on to a highly polished jarrah background which extends from the floor to the top of the wall between studs 6ft apart, which makes the Honour Board an imposing structure. The board itself which was prepared by the Company, is finely carved at the top, and above the list of names, which are painted in gold, is the inscription, “For King and Empire - Jarrahdale Roll of Honour”. There are 146 names on the Board, which comprise only the volunteers from the town and mill which constitutes a wonderful record for any place. [3]
