Brief History
The 5th Australian Tank Ordnance Workshop Company was formed during November 1942 in the Massey Harris factory at Maylands in anticipation of the arrival in WA of the 1st Armoured Division. Its role was to provide 4th line maintenance using drafts of tradesmen from NSW and Victoria. When AEME was formed in December 1942 the unit's designation was changed to 5th Australian Tank Workshop Company. In October 1943 the unit moved to Nungarin where in February 1944 they were absorbed into the 5th Base Workshop.
