War Service
Served from 7 Feb 1916 till his medical discharge at 5th Military District on 4 Jan 1917. Soon after enlisting had a hernia operation in May 1916 at No 8 General Hospital, Fremantle that left residual problems with marching and drill.
Post War
1925 living in Government road, West Guildford with wife Besse Rennie, working as a packer (on the railways); 1949 a driver living in Salisbury street, Subiaco;.1963 "Golden Hours", Berkshire road, Forrestfield still driving, while 1968 roll has him retired at 117 Moulden Ave Yokine. Bessie died on 15 Aug 1972.
Son Ralph Alban Durling served in WW2 with Regimental No WX32079 in the 2nd AIF.
Notes
His older brother Maurice Alban (or Albert) Durling made an allotment from his pay of 4/- per day to him from the date of his embarkation. Maurice was Killed in Action as a member of the 51st Battalion during their attack on Mouquet Farm 14/16 Aug 1916.
Another brother Victor Emanuel Durling was WIA several weeks earlier on 10 Jul 1916 at Pozieres but returned to Australia.
