Brief History
In April 1942 the Northam AIF Training Camp sent a company sized force to provide defence for the Pearce RAAF Base. The unit was named No. 3 Special Detachment AIF (WA). With the rationalisation of recruit training units in May they were renamed Recruit Training Battalion (No 3 Detachment). In July, following the arrival in WA of the 2nd Australian Infantry Division is is likely that the detachment was withdrawn. There is evidence of a detachment from this unit providing defence for the airport at Busselton in April.
