Brief History

1st Tank Ordnance Workshop Company was raised at Muswellbrook in New South Wales during August 1942 as part of the 2/1st Advanced Ordnance Workshop, charged with providing 4th line tank maintenance. With the formation of the AEME Corps, the unit was transferred to them in December and was renamed 1st Australian Tank Workshop Company. In March 1943 they moved to Wallangarra in Queensland, with a detachment manning a watercraft workshop at Kangaroo Point from August. The company was absorbed into the 2/1st Base Workshop at Wallangarra in December 1944.
