A reorganisation of the 3rd Division's Supply Column and its Ammunition Sub Park units on 13 Mar 1918 resulted in the creation of the '''3rd Australian Mechanical Transport Company''' at Desvres, inland from Boulogne before it moved to Méteren to transport supplies and ammunition from railheads to unit of the 3rd Division. The unit was very mobile during the heavy workload surrounding the move of Australian units to the Somme to resist the German advance on Amiens, and the subsequent advance of Australian units up the Somme river valley towards Péronne.

During the later stages of the units existence it worked the railhead at Charleroi, and by May 1919 its workload was reducing to the point that later arrived personnel were being posted to the 4th nd 5th Mechanical Transport Companies. Brief History

A reorganisation of the 3rd Division's Supply Column and its Ammunition Sub Park units on 13 Mar 1918 resulted in the creation of the 3rd Australian Mechanical Transport Company at Desvres, inland from Boulogne before it moved to Méteren to transport supplies and ammunition from railheads to unit of the 3rd Division. The unit was very mobile during the heavy workload surrounding the move of Australian units to the Somme to resist the German advance on Amiens, and the subsequent advance of Australian units up the Somme river valley towards Péronne.


During the later stages of the units existence it worked the railhead at Charleroi, and by May 1919 its workload was reducing to the point that later arrived personnel were being posted to the 4th nd 5th Mechanical Transport Companies. Four men died while posted to this unit which was disbanded on 20 Jun 1919
