Remarks
The smallest of the vessels chartered by the Commonwealth, she was owned by the British India Steam Navigation Co Ltd, London and made two journeys to Egypt with troops before being handed over to the Government of India on 4 Aug 1915.
In 1917 while back under private control the Chilka caught fire near Gopalpur on the Bay of Bengal, was beached and abandoned. 70 lives were lost.
