They moved to Yeerongpilly in Queensland in March and then to Milne Bay in April. In June a detachment moved to Goodenough Island. In September the unit left a detachment at Milne Bay, and moved the rest of the unit, including the Goodenough detachment moved to Buna. In February 1944 the Milne Bay detachment rejoined the unit in Buna. Following the capture of Madang, troop numbers in New Guinea decreased, with Lae being developed for future operations. The 37th Australian Switchboard Operating Section moved to Lae in June, and although listed to be relieved in June 1945, they were still in Lae at he end of the war.
