Detachments from Fortress Engineers, Brisbane Fixed Defence, had been servicing the coastal artillery units at Caloundra since April 1942. In December those on Moreton Island were grouped together to form the 5th Fortress Company, with its HQ housed at Cowan Battery. 'O' Heavy Battery arrived at Rous Bay and became a section of 5th Australian Fortress Company. With the maintenance staff transferring from Engineers to Artillery, there was no longer a need for the unit and it was disbanded.

Brief History

Detachments from Fortress Engineers, Brisbane Fixed Defence, had been servicing the coastal artillery units on offshore since April 1942. In December those on Moreton Island were grouped together to form the 5th Fortress Company, with its HQ housed at Cowan Battery. Sections included the 113rd and 114th CA Searchlight Sections.

'O' Heavy Battery had arrived at Rous Bay in March 1943 and had became a section of 5th Australian Fortress Company - 115th Coastal Artillery Searchlight Section. In May 1943, the previously attached Engineers of 114th Coastal Artillery Searchlight Section transferred to the Artillery as did those in e other Sections and they were absorbed into Cowan Battery.
