John George Alfred was born Johann Georg Alfred and locally known as "Alf".  He was born in Bremen Germany where his family lived.

In 1936 or 1937 John applied for naturalisation.

John married [[Lois Ivy Hohnholt]](nee Grounds-Weston) on 20 February 1937 and were married at St. Mary's Kelmscott. John and Lois had 1 son and 2 daughters.
