On 2 Jun 1942 George enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps at Wandering and was allocated to the [[12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion]]. On 31 Jul 1944 he joined the rest of his unit in the reserve.

==Post War==
During 1955 George married Irene Zelda Price in Perth.
