==Pre War==
Married Mary Ellen Longstroth in Perth during 1915.  Mary died during 1940 in Perth.

==War Service==
Initially allocated to the 6th reinforcement draft for the 28th Battalion, he appears to have been transferred to a Pioneer reinforcement before he travelled overseas to Port Suez in Egypt. From 2 Mar till 7 Mar 1916 he was hospitalised in Shoubra, Cairo with a mild infection. Returning to the depot at Zeitrum, he was taken on strength by the [[1st Pioneer Battalion]] on 19 Mar 1916.  

On 27 Mar 1916 he boarded [[HMT Saxonia]] for the journey to Marseilles where they disembarked on 3 Apr 1916.   

An entry in his records dated 29 Apr 1916 relates to a charge of having disobeyed an order(s), the result being he was put in a cell for 1 day and was awarded 3 days Field Punishment, with the loss of 4 days pay. On 3 Jul 1916 Charles was detached to the Australian Mining Corps from the Pioneers, and was to be supernumerary to the establishment of No.2 Company.  

On 30 Sep 1916 he rejoined the 1st Pioneer battalion, before on 1 Nov 1916 being hospitalised with diarrhoea.  Seen first by the [[2nd Field Ambulance]], followed by the 13th Casualty Clearing Station and then on 7 Nov 1916 by the No 6 General Hospital in Rouen.   On the 27th he was embarked on [[HMHS Asturias]], and next day was admitted to the Bristol War Hospital with a bad back and diarrhoea. Released to the [[3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital]] on 1 Dec 1916, who granted him furlough on 11 Dec 1916.  On 29 Jan 1917 he returned to the Pioneer Training Battalion before proceeding to France from Folkestone aboard the [[HMT Golden Eagle]] on 28 Feb 1917.  

On 22 Mar 1917 he had rejoined the 1st Pioneer Battalion, and from 25 Aug to 2 Sep 1917 he was detached to the Pack Transport School.  Returning to normal duties, on 14 Oct 1917 was appointed as a Driver. Charles reverted to Private at his own request on 27 Jul 1918 before being transferred to the [[1st Division Train]] on 4 Dec 1918, where he was again made a Driver.

On 3 Apr 1919 he embarked for England, and processing for return to Australia.  Discharged by 5th Military District 13 Aug 1919.

==Post War==
Daughter Ivy Hazel born in 1920 and son Cyril Charles (2 Mar 1924 - 2 Feb 1992).  (Gladys Mary ??, died 10 Jan 2002 in Subiaco aged 87)
