Brief History
First formed on 19 Dec 1943, designated as the Tactical Air Force (Burma) and renamed as the Third TAF on 28 December 1943. HQ RAF Bengal and Burma was formed on 4 December 1944 by renaming the 3rd Tactical Air Force. Its role was to act a RAF headquarters charged with supporting the 14th Army. Units included No 221 Group, No 222 Group, No 223 Group, No 226 Group, No 227 Group, No 229 Group and No 231 Group, each comprising up to eight squadrons in each Group other than 226 and 227 Groups which carried out training and maintenance functions.
The unit was redesignated as HQ RAF Burma on 27 February 1945.
