White a Maritime Commission type (EC2-S-C1) Cargo Ship under Maritime Commission contract (MCE 1232) at Marinship, Sausalito California, and launched on 28 Jan 1943. She was delivered on 27 Feb 1943 to the War Shipping Administration, and allocated to the the War Department the same day. Laid up at Astoria, Oregon on 21 Jan 1947, in the National Defense Reserve Fleet.
