War Service
A member of the Citizens Military Forces, Sidney joined the Melville camp on 24 Apr 1941 and joined Camp No 4 on 23 May 1941, completing his training on 20 Aug 1941. He was called up for full time duty on 24 Nov 1941 at Fremantle. On 24 May 1942 he was classified as a Class TGII Nurse Orderly and on 21 Nov 1942 at the 60th Camp Hospital his NOK was changed by marriage to Jessie Lavina Buggins. From 3 until 10 Mar 1943 he was given some leave.
On 6 Nov 1943 Sidney was transferred to the 75th Camp Hospital, and a year later required medical attention for a boil on his buttock which later saw him shift to the 110th Australian General Hospital as it had developed into an abscess. He had rejoined his unit by 25 Nov 1943 where he remained for a year until he was reassigned to units in the eastern states. On 11 Mar 1945 in Townsville he embarked on HMT Katoomba for Jacquinot Bay on New Britain where he disembarked on 20 Mar 1945 and joined the 105th Australian Casualty Clearing Station.
While with the 105th CCS he had a period being treated for an infected sole of his foot by the 4th Australian Field Ambulance (14 - 19 Sep 1945). On 8 Dec 1945 he was identified for transfer home to WA for discharge, and to that end, on 8 Dec 1945 he embarked in Rabaul on the HMAS Westralia for Brisbane where he disembarked on 13 Dec 1945. Discharged 2 Jan 1946.
