War Service

On 24 Jan 1943 Helen enlisted in the Australian Women's Army Service before transferring to the 6th AWS Training Company. During her time there she was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital from 2 - 11 Mar 1943. Training completed she was graded as a Motor Transport Driver TG II, and following a few days leave she was transferred to the 4th Australian Ambulance Car Company on 23 Apr 1943.


From 12 May until 5 Jul 1943 Helen was detached to the 37th Australian Camp Hospital. Her next detachment was to the 29th Australian Heavy Anti Aircraft Battery from 6 Jul to 9 Sep 1943, after which she took Leave Without Pay (LWOP) from 9 Sep - 7 Oct 1943. Post War

During 1946 Helen married Gordon Spurgeon Ohrt in the Katanning district. Gordon died on 24 Feb 2007, aged 87 in Claremont. Two daughters ?? Jill Margaret, and Noah Marjorie.
