An entry in his military records indicate that he was wounded on 10 May 1915, but no details.  During the darkness of early morning the 16th Battalion had supported the 15th Battalion's unsuccessful attack on Turkish trenches above Quinn's Post. His presence at Convalescent Camp at Camp Helwan (a suburb of Cairo) with rheumatism on 24 May 1915, followed by a comment on his release to Base details at Zeitoun on 13 Jul 1915 so he had been evacuated from Gallipoli.  On 21 Jul 1915 he embarked on [[HMT Kingstonian]] to rejoin his unit at Gallipoli. However by 85 Aug 1915 he ws again unfit for service on the peninsular, and was placed aboard [[SS Devanha]] which was acting as a hospital ship, and evacuated to Malta due to defective vision
