War Service

Allan's medical examination at enlistment was conducted in York on 30 Nov 1943. However, within 9 days of enlisting he was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital. Released, he joined the 35th Australian Infantry Training Battalion on 31 Jan 1944, and on 3 May 1944 he was charged with Losing by Neglect Regimental Equipment valued at 2/6d ($0.25). Penalty was a fine of 2/6d.

On 12 Jun 1944 he was admitted to 104th Australian General Hospital at Bathurst with splinters in left hand, and was discharged on 19 Jun 1944. Allan was admitted to the 2/2nd Australian General Hospital again on 4 Oct 1944 as part of the malaria experiment. Released on 12 Jan 1945 to the 116th Australian General Hospital, he returned to the 2/2nd Australian General Hospital on 26 Jan 1945, and then the 2/1st Australian Convalescent Depot on 8 Mar 1945. On 19 Mar 1945 Allan was granted Special Malaria Leave, and reported to the WA Line of Command depot unit on 6 May 1945. On 18 May 1945 he joined the 21st Australian Infantry Training Battalion. On 9 Sep 1945 Allan boarded the RMS Maloja which left Sydney the next day for Fremantle where they disembarked following the conclusion of hostilities, on 16 Sep 1945. Allan was sent to the Western Command's General Duties Depot for re-assignment, and on 29 Oct 1945 he was posted to the 35th Field Bakery.

On 15 Jan 1946 Allan was awarded a Commander in Chief's Card for his contribution from August 1944 until June 1945 to Malaria research. On 11 Mar 1946 he was marked for discharge, but before this could happen, on 3 May 1946 he was evacuated to the 110th Australian Base Hospital who treated him and then released him to his unit on 31 May 1946. Allan was discharged on 10 Jul 1946.
