War Service

On 25 May 1942, barely 18 years old, Allan enlisted in the CMF at Claremont and from 9 Jun 1942 he was full time. On 1 Jul 1942 he was sent to Northam's 13th Australian Infantry Training Battalion for general reinforcement training. Initial training completed on 10 Aug 1942 he was held in a Training Depot until he was sent to the Motor Vehicle Trade Training Center to undertake a driving course between 1 Mar and 27 Mar 1943. Failing to graduate from the course he was transferred on 4 Apr 1943 to the 2nd RAE Training Centre for Bulk Issue Petrol and Oil Depot (BIPOD) training.

On 16 Apr 1943 he was posted to the Western Command Bulk Issue Petrol and Oil Depot and on 1 Jul 1943 he was classified Proficient and given a pay rise. However, on 17 Nov 1943 he was classified as a Trade Group III Clerk which required him to surrender his proficiency pay. On 27 No 1943 he was admitted to the Casualty Clearing Station at Moora, and treated by them until he was released to duty on 15 Dec 1943. He remained with the BIPOD until 31 May 1945 when he was transferred on paper to HQ Western Command, but in reality remaining with the BIPOD until he was transferred to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot on 20 Oct 1945 to prepare for discharge which occurred on 24 Oct 1945.
