Brief History

Mobilised originally as the 4th Australian Casualty Clearing Station at Narellan in NSW during December 1941. They accompanied the 2nd Australian Infantry Division to Claremont in WA during July 1942. In August they relieved the 8th Australian Casualty Station at Helena vale, before moving to Moora in October. In January 1943 the Light Section moved to Gingin. In March the 4th Australian CCS relieved the 8th Australian CCS in Mullewa, and in April 1943 they were renamed 104th Australian Casualty Clearing Station.

With reduced troop numbers in WA, the 104th Australian CCS returned to NSW in June, and after leave they reassembled at Wondecla in Queensland during July 1943. In late 1944 they moved to Aitape in New Guinea with the 6th Australian Infantry Division. With the 6th Division working their way down the coast towards Wewak, the 104th unit moved to But in April 1945. After Wewak was captured they moved to Cape Wom in May, remaining there for the rest of the war.
