Pre War

Prior to enlistment had passed 7th Standard at school. He could also play the Saxaphone and Banjolin.

War Service

George enlisted in the RAAF at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre on 18 Sep 1943, mustered as a Traine Technical. He was posted the same day to No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF at Pearce where he participated in Recruit Drill course P.244 before commencing the No. 316 Trainee Fitter's course course at No. 5 School of Technical Training RAAF on 13 Nov 1943. Course completed, on 19 Feb 1944 he was transferred to No. 1 Engineering School RAAF to attend the No. 360 Trainee Flight Rigger's course from 6 Mar until 27 May 1944.

On 13 Jun 1944 George was posted to No. 4 Aircraft Depot RAAF, remaining with them until 25 May 1945 when he was transferred to No. 4 Personnel Depot RAAF. As part of the transfer, George was remusterd on 28 May 1944 as a Flight Rigger, and appointed Leading Aircraftman. George was granted 67 days special leave without pay from 5 Nov 1944 until 10 Jan 1945, and on 25 Jun 1945 he spent one day with No. 2 Reserve Personnel Pool RAAF before they posted him to No. 43 Squadron RAAF on 26 Jun 1945.

On 21 Nov 1945 George transferred to the No. 12 Aircraft Repair Depot RAAF in Darwin. However he had already been granted 60 days special leave from 2 Oct 1945 until 30 Nov 1945. In Darwin on 16 Feb 1946. On February 1946 while still in Darwin he passed a Trade Test necessary for him to act as a refueler. His last posting was to the No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF on 15 Apr 1946, who managed his discharge on 17 Apr 1946 with pay for the customary 30 days re-establishment leave, but also 51 days pay in lieu of unused leave and 7 days Tropical Leave.
