Brief History

Formed in Australia during December 1916 as 4th Section, Australian Railway Troops with men from predominantly Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania. Arrived England 20 July 1917, where it was redesignated as the 35th Broad Gauge Railway Operating Company. Arrived in France on 4 September 1917. Renumbered as the 4th Broad Gauge Railway Operating Company in March 1918.

Four men died while on active service, 1 killed in action; 1 died as a result of an accident, and two died of an illness.
