On entering Blackboy Hill camp, Gerrie was allocated to the 7th reinforcement draft for the 11th Battalion. However he was later re-allocated to the 2nd reinforcement draft for the 28th Battalion, travelling with them to Egypt.
On 20 Jan 1916 it was decided to send him home to recover from rheumatism, but he was not discharged by the 5th Military District untl 24 Jan 1917
Post War
In 1920, Gerrie married Florence Jane Yendle in Fremantle. Florence died 16 Nov 1955 at Nedlands aged 70.
