Pre War
Joseph, a 25 year old farmer, sailed from London on 28 Oct 1938 for Fremantle on board the SS Strathnaver, arriving in Fremantle on 29 Nov 1938. His enlistment papers were marked "Area to investigate". He had graduated in Poland as a lawyer.
War Service
On 19 March 1942 Joseph was mobilised and was interviewed at Claremont. Presumably following investigation he was permitted to enlist in the Volunteer Defence Corps on 11 Jul 1942, allocated to the 12th (Jarrah) VDC Battalion.on 7 Feb 1944 he was issued with a new Army number, W61802 replacing W85047. During 1944 Joseph had married Elizabeth Alma Pittman in Perth, and then along with the rest of his unit he was placed in the Reserve on 31 Jul 1944.
