Pre War

Married Agnes Emily Farnell in 1916. Agnes was the daughter of Joseph James Farnell who in 1916 was operating a greengrocer's business in Armadale. Agnes died in Bunbury on 10 Jan 1962 aged 69.

War Service

Previously rejected due to a limp favouring his right leg.

Entered camp on 27 Apr 1916 and on 3 May 1916 he was allocated to the 6th reinforcement draft for the 51st Battalion.

On 9 May 1916 his officers thought that he was fit for work, despite his repeated complaints about an old injury to his knee. Harold then formally requested a discharge. However, he was charged with direct disobedience of orders, and malingering. Fined £2 when dealt with on 10 May 1916, which also recommended a Medical Board.

A Medical Board held 10 May found him fit for duty, but another on 16 May recommended discharge on grounds of being medically unfit based on evidence by the Camp Adjutant who has "come to the conclusion that he will not become an efficient soldier." Discharged as Medically unfit on 30 May 1916

Post War

Electoral Roll entries - 1915 Brunswick Junction, railway employee; 1916 450 Beaufort street, North Perth, tram conductor; 1917 at 56 Wellington street, East Perth; 1925 at 77 Mackie street, Victoria Park, tram conductor, with Agnes Emily; 1931 at 82 Brandon street, South Perth, labourer; 1936 78 Zebina street, East Perth, railway employee; 1943 63 Central avenue, Maylands, also Kathleen Elizabeth, Mary Ann, and Roy Frederick (boot repairer).
