George and John Armstrong were brothers who had arrived in the Swan River Colony in 1829 with their widowed father, Adam. They took up land in the Wungong area naming their property 'Woodstock' . The brothers also engaged in felling timber in the Darling Range and opened a wayside inn on their property in the late 1840s. Hubert Maitland Armstrong served with the 51st Battalion in WW1, winning the Military Medal as a stretcher bearer.
