This training unit was formed at RAF Carthargo from a nucleus provided by No. 211 Squadron RAF on 10 Nov 1941 as a light bomber training unit in desert and tropical conditions. It was equipped to train twin-engined crews, single seat fighter pilots and crews for communications duties.Soon after it had moved to Wadi Gazouza, Sudan and operated a mixture of Blenheim, Ansons and Bostons. From 20 Mar 1942 to early April 1942 it transferred to Nanyuki, Kenya where it remained until it was disbanded on 14 May 1943. It had been under the control of AHQ East Africa from 16 Nov 1942.
