War Service

Known to the A.I.F. as Allabuse John Butt.

Entered Blackboy Hill camp on 29 Jan 1918 and on 10 Apr 1918 he was allocated to the 1st Western Australian General Reinforcements draft, travelling with them from Albany aboard SS Port Darwin. On 7 Jun 1918 they disembarked at Suez in Egypt and were taken on strength by the Australian Camp at Suez. However, on 3 Jul 1918 he was transferred to Alexandria to embark for England on the SS Port Darwin.

On arrival in England he was sent to the 5th Training Battalion to prepare for service in France, and while at Fovant, on 16 Jul 1918 he was allocated to the 28th Battalion reinforcement pool. Proceeding overseas via Dover on 4 Oct 1918, he joined the 28th Battalion at Berteaucourt on 10 Oct 1918. (Berteaucourt was a 25 mile (41km) route march from Amiens where they were deposited by train. The battalion, along with all other Australian Infantry Battalions was to enjoy a period of rest before preparing for battle again, but did not need to do so as the Armistice intervened. Thus Allabuse did not reach the front lines before the war concluded.

On 17 May 1919 he was detached to the Australian General Base Depot in France, before marching in to the staging camp at Sutton Veny, England on 25 Jun 1919.

Discharged by the 5th Military District on 10 Nov 1919.

Post War

No electoral roll entries for Allabuse John Butt either pre or post WW1 can be found. However, both the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board, and WA BDMs have a matching Allahbux Jan Butt, aged 40 dying on 31 Mar 1920 in East Cannington. Allahbux married Ellen Roche during 1906.
